PRELIMINARY STUDIES FOR DAVAO COASTLINE PROJECT COMPLETED

Port developer Mega Harbour has completed its preliminary studies for a proposed 200-hectare reclamation project and the corresponding multi-billion peso development of this city’s coastline, according to the developer in a statement.

“The preliminary technical studies for the reclamation, construction and development of a modern port city in this urban center’s foreshore area are now complete,” the company said.

Mega Harbour said it has completed all the geotechnical, parcellary, bathymetric, baseline traffic, socioeconomic, environmental and coastal engineering surveys of the areas in and around the prospective 200-hectare site where the port city will be built.

According to Mega Harbour Chairman Reghis M. Romero II, they were just waiting for the approval of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) before it can start with the formulation and design of the integrated and detailed engineering master plan where the results of all the preliminary studies will be factored in.

Earlier, Mayor Sara Duterte said she was obliged to push through with the project as a memorandum of agreement between Davao City and the developer was signed last year by then-Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Romero.

“The coastal engineering survey involved nearshore oceanography, marine geology, behavioral assessment of waves and measurements of the pressure of flashing, or the impact of water current when it hits the shore,” Romero pointed out.
