Elements of the Benguet Police Provincial Office (PPO) arrested 15 individuals, including four minors, after yielding P4.37 million of marijuana bricks at a security checkpoint in Kapangan, Benguet.

Chief Superintendent Elmo Sarona, Cordillera regional police director (RD), on Saturday (April 15) said that the PPO set up a checkpoint in Sitio Lomon, Barangay Paykek in Kapangan to work on a tip that a big volume of marijuana would be transported in the Holy Week as traffic gets busy with travelers.

True enough, police units halted four vehicles from which five sacks containing 41 marijuana bricks which weighed 2 kilograms each; three bricks weighing 1 kg each; and 18 marijuana stalks (1 kg each) were found and seized.

The Dangerous Drug Board Value (DDB) estimated the value of the entire haul at P4.375 million, said Sarona.

Police also seized 500,000 cash from the suspects, 13 of whom have been criminally charged. Two of those who were in the vehicles were only aged 9 and 11 and released to their relatives.
