The City government of Davao has awarded the creator of the newest logo for the city’s popular Life Is Here branding.
The fresh logo was chosen from a shortlist of designers who participated in a contest announced in February by the Local Government of Davao, after six years of the original logo being used since 2011.
The winners were presented to the employees of the local government during Monday’s flag ceremony.
The winning logo was designed by Rosch Patricio, who won P50,000 for the project.
Patricio’s logo has four leading Davao icons — Philippine Eagle, Mt. Apo, the indigenous peoples, Durian, and Waling-waling.
“The different colors in each letter represent the diversity that we have here in Davao and the Davaoeños,” Patricio said in his entry notes. “Although there are differences, there’s still harmony and peace when all are brought together.”
The new logo will now officially represent the brand of the city as a preferred tourism destination and investment hub in the Philippines.
The logo making contest placers are Ariel Encinas (2nd place, winning P30,000 cash) and Reneboy Chona (3rd placer, winning P20,000 cash).
Mayor Inday Sara Duterte said the winning logo was a standout, noting it perfectly captured the spirit and vision of Davao as a city of life, diversity, harmony, and unity.
“It represents what Davao City is all about and what Dabawenyos aspire for. The message is striking but at the same time, simple — life, diversity, and harmony, and unity,” said Mayor Inday Sara.
“Davao City is a city of many cultures, but despite the diversity, the city and its people continue to stand united, strong, and resilient,” she said.
